EAIC calls up 10 immigration officers over medical visa scandal: Source

Ten officers from the Malaysian Immigration Department have been summoned to provide statements regarding the investigation into a medical visa scandal involving the entry of foreign nationals.

According to a source, the 10 called up by the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) included a senior assistant director of Immigration from the Security and Passport Division.

“The EAIC summoned them this week. All of them were present and provided their statements.

“The EAIC also raided the office of the senior assistant director of Immigration.

“The investigation is ongoing,” the source told Malaysiakini.

Malaysiakini has contacted the Immigration Department and the EAIC and is awaiting their responses.

Previously, the EAIC established a special task force to investigate misconduct related to the syndicate.

A full investigation is being carried out under Subsection 27(4), read together with Subsection 26(3) of the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission Act 2009.

The EAIC also raided the Visa, Pass, and Permit Division of the Immigration Department in Putrajaya and seized 156 files of Social Visit Pass (Treatment Pass category) applications.

The investigation involves several officers from the Tourism, Arts, and Culture Ministry in addition to immigration officers.

The Immigration Department previously assured that it would not compromise on any officers involved in the syndicate.

The EAIC is a federal statutory body that, among its other powers, is authorised to investigate complaints of misconduct by enforcement officers or agencies. - FMT
