Electricity supply, clean water, and good roads are basic infrastructure needs that every citizen deserves, and these are things that the current Sabah government has failed to provide, said Hamzah Zainudin.
The Perikatan Nasional leader said the state government’s failure to address such fundamental issues showed that change is needed.
“The people of Sabah need change because the current leadership has proven to be a failure,” he wrote in a Facebook post last night.
Hamzah, who visited Sabah this week, shared his firsthand experience of the frustrations voiced by locals.
“In Sabah, these are the main complaints. People are not just disappointed; they are angry about the current situation. During my stay in Kota Kinabalu, even the hotel where I lodged faced water supply issues, with written notices distributed to every guest,” he explained.
Additionally, Hamzah recounted his challenging journey from Kota Kinabalu to Kudat.
“There were potholes everywhere. Ironically, the slogan ‘Sabah Maju Jaya’ was prominently displayed,” he remarked.
Hamzah emphasised that PN is committed to delivering change, claiming that the coalition has received extraordinary support from Sabahans.
Aiming for 18
Earlier, the Bersatu deputy president announced that PN aims to contest at least 18 of the 73 seats in the upcoming 17th state election, which must be held by December.
“If you allow us to do so (contest 18 seats), why not?” he said during a press conference in Kota Kinabalu, as reported by the New Straits Times.

When asked about potential collaborations with other Sabah parties, Hamzah stated that PN is open to working with those sharing similar values and aspirations for the state.
“We don’t want to boast, but our focus is on maintaining an open attitude toward collaboration with like-minded parties.
“While no formal discussions have taken place (Bersatu vice-president and Sabah chief) Ronald (Kiandee) has already engaged informally with many political counterparts in Sabah,” he added.
The current state government, led by Hajiji Noor, is composed of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and Pakatan Harapan.
However, GRS has been embroiled in a corruption scandal involving the issuance of mining exploration licences. The scandal came to light after a whistleblower revealed videos implicating several assemblypersons. - Mkini
