PETALING JAYA
The mother of six-year-old Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin, who was found dead near his apartment block in Damansara Damai in December 2023, has lodged a police report after receiving a TikTok video of her and her children which was secretly recorded.

Sungai Buloh police chief Hafiz Nor confirmed that Zayn Rayyan’s mother, Ismanira Abdul Manaf, 30, lodged the report at the Kampung Baru Subang police station on March 9 after receiving the one-minute clip on WhatsApp last Thursday.

“The video showed her walking while holding the hands of her two children, Zayn Rayyan and his sibling, as they headed towards the motorcycle parking area of Block R, Idaman Apartment,” he said in a statement.

Hafiz said the video appeared to have been filmed from an upper floor of a nearby apartment building facing Block R.

“The complainant feels that her safety and that of her family are at risk, and she does not believe this is a coincidence.

“Shortly after the video was taken, her son was found dead approximately 200m from the location,” Hafiz said.

He added that investigations are ongoing and urged the public not to speculate.

Ismanira and her husband, Zaim Ikhwan Zahari, are currently on trial after being charged with child neglect on June 13, 2024.

Both pleaded not guilty at the Shah Alam sessions court on June 13, 2024, to neglecting their autistic son between noon on Dec 5 and 9.55pm on Dec 6, 2023, at Damansara Damai.

The charge, under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, carries a maximum penalty of a RM50,000 fine, up to 20 years in prison, or both upon conviction.

Zayn Rayyan was reported missing on Dec 5, 2023, and his body was discovered in a stream near his home the following day.

He was believed to have been murdered after an autopsy revealed injuries to his neck and body, consistent with self-defence. - FMT
