Kuecuekboga Suleyman is also accused of obstructing an immigration officer from carrying out his duties.
However, no plea could be recorded from Kuecuekboga Suleyman as he claimed he did not understand the charges despite an interpreter being provided.
However, he managed to tell the court that he planned to appoint a lawyer to represent him, Daily Express reported.
Suleyman was charged with illegally entering Sabah without valid papers on April 27 under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
If convicted, he faces a maximum RM10,000 fine, up to five years in prison, or both, as well as up to six strokes of the cane.
He was also charged under Section 56(g)(1) of the same Act with obstructing an immigration officer from recording his statement on May 5.
This offence is punishable by a maximum RM10,000 fine or up to five years in prison upon conviction.
The court ordered him to remain under remand and fixed June 22 for mention. - FMT
