Ex-cops and Pekida lodge report over Chin Peng's ashes
Some 150 members from the Pasir Mas branch Ex-Policemen Association and Dana Aman Economic, Welfare and Knowledge Association (Pekida) assembled in front of the Pasir Mas Police Headquarters in protest against the bringing back of the remains or ashes of former Communist Party of Malaya (CPM) secretary-general Chin Peng.
They also carried placards and burnt pictures of Chin Peng to demonstrate their disgust towards the cruelty carried out by the former CPM secretary-general, especially during Malaysia’s period of emergency.
Kelantan Pekida deputy chairperson Nik Lah Nik Soh said the association fully supported the actions and firmness of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak against allowing Chin Peng’s remains or ashes to be brought into the country.
“We leave it to the authorities to take the necessary action on any quarters attempting to bring back his remains,” he told reporters after lodging a report at the Pasir Mas Police Headquarters at 10am today.
Recently, newspapers reported pressure from various quarters for the government to allow Chin Peng’s remains or ashes to be brought home.
Chin Peng died in Bangkok, Thailand last Monday.
Many quarters including former security personnel objected efforts to bring back the remains of the former communist leader.
