MIC wants gov't to have plans for Indians, too

MIC wants the government to draw up specific plans for the Indian community as well because the community is still lagging in socio-economic measures.

Its deputy president S Subramaniam was quoted by Malay daily Berita Harian as saying that while the government had no objection to the government’s move to strengthen the bumiputera economy, there are many other communities that still need the government’s attention.

“We accept the fact that there are programmes to help communities that have been left behind, including the bumiputra community since long ago,” Subramaniam was quoted as saying.

“But I want to remind the government that every other community also needs specific aid, especially the Indian community,” he added.

“We are facing many problems, especially in social and economic aspects,” he said.

Meanwhile, political analyst Sivamurugan Pandian was also quoted by Berita Harian as saying that the government’s move to aid the bumiputera economy is not “racist”.

“The allegation of it being racist comes because certain quarters are viewing this issue from a racial standpoint,” he said.

“The prime minister has also said that the needs of other communities will not be neglected,” he added.
