More teachers for Sabah

Second Education Minister Idris Jusoh also said the state education directors would be empowered to monitor and expediate implementation of approved projects.
KOTA KINABALU: Education directors have been given the power to expedite the implementation of approved education infrastructure projects, Second Education Minister Idris Jusoh said.
“Sabah and Sarawak are indeed very far from the peninsula and we want to ensure more monitoring activities are carried out by the respective state education directors on education development projects,” he told reporters at a briefing on the Malaysian Education Blueprint 2013-2025 here yesterday.
He said discussion would be carried out with Education Ministry secretary-general Dr Madinah Mohamad in terms of the procedures to implement the projects and the selection of contractors and developers.
Meanwhile, Idris said the recruitment and placement of teachers from Sabah would also be increased as many teachers from the peninsula had wanted to return to their states of origin.
He said, so far, the number of teachers in Sabah was still adequate, but  future recruitment would give more priority and opportunity for teachers from Sabah to fill the vacancies.
“However, this is not an assurance that they will not be posted to teach in other states,” he said.
Also present was Education director-general Abd Ghafar Mahmud.
