KUALA LUMPUR - Another spate of violence is shaking Malaysia, which has already come under the international spotlight for failing to control the spread of organized crime and the rise of drugs and vice syndicates.
However, the latest two murders appeared to have been committed by individuals to satisfy their respective lust - one for sex and the other for money.
On Wednesday morning, Malaysians woke up to the horrendous news that a body found inside a gaudy green suitcase belonged to a chirpy and bright 15-year-old school girl, the apple of her mother's eye and who had the world at her feet.
An avid fan of Cosplay and the world of anime, she was killed when her 23-year-old friend and Cosplay partner gave in to lust and tried to rape her.
Then even before Malaysians could go to bed, another shocking piece of news broke out.
Shot in the face with a pump gun

A 37-year-old woman officer with the Ambank group was shot in the face by a rogue security guard out to grab cash in the vault that she had just opened.
The availability of a 32-second video clip, taken from the bank's CCTV footage, has heightened public outrage over the incident.
This has prompted the police chief to vow to capture the security guard. "All efforts are being deployed to apprehend the Ambank murderer," IGP Khalid Bakar tweeted this morning.
The victim, Norazita Abu Talib, was shot in the face once with a pump-gun by the guard, a 37-year-old Sabahan.
The incident took place at 6.20pm in the Ambank branch in USJ Sentral, Subang Jaya.
Shot rang out and she slumped to the ground
The video clip, which has gone viral, showed Norazita in a red baju kurung (Malay dress) and one of her colleagues opening a vault.
Suddenly the sound of a gunshot rang out and Norazita fell to the ground.
Police believe she died on the spot.
Hearing the gunshot, Norazita's friend stood rooted to the ground.
Seconds later, the security guard appeared on the tape, holding the pump-gun.
He pulled the woman away and asked her to take some cash from the safe.
The rogue guard loaded the money into a black bag he had brought along and then walked out from the bank.
Norazita's husband was informed by the bank staff and told to come to the scene.
He sobbed as he told of how he had phoned her just minutes before she was killed.
He had wanted to remind her to drive home carefully as it was raining heavily.
Pain so deep
Meanwhile, in the Cosplay murder case, a post-mortem has confirmed that 15-year-old Ng Yuk Tim managed to avoid a rape attempt by her murderer.
The murder suspect who has been remanded but not yet charged is a 23-year-old man she had known for 5 years.
The man, whose identity has been withheld, has confessed to trying to rape Yuk Tim whom he said rejected his advances and fought back.
Enraged, he hit her on the head with a dumbbell, killing her in his Petaling Jaya home.
He had then stuffed her body into the green suitcase, which was discovered in Shah Alam.
The anguish and pain felt by the Yuk Tim's family is only too clear to see.
An animal, a devil, we will never forgive him
Such is the extent of the grief felt by Yuk Tim's family.
"My granddaughter was a very nice person, who had a good heart and a bright future. How could the murderer do this to her, to us?
"He wanted to rape my granddaughter, and killed her when she fought back. I am 70. I have nothing to lose if I am sent to the gallows."
