BN leaders dismiss Raja Noor Jan Shah's claim to be acknowledged as the Sultan of Malacca
PETALING JAYA: BN leaders dismissed outright the claim by Raja Noor Jan Shah Raja Tuah to be recognised as the ‘Sultan’ of Malacca and want authorities to take action against the individual.
“The authorities need to look into people who claim they are from a royal bloodline before it causes confusion among the people,” said MCA vice-president Chua Tee Yong.
“Some are even collecting money from the people on the pretext of being a sultan. The authorities have to come in and clarify to avoid misunderstanding and problems that may arise,” added the Labis MP.
Umno Cheras division chief Syed Ali Alhabshee doubted Raja Noor’s claim that he is possession of a document, dated Nov 25, from the International Court of Justice recognising him as a sultan.
“How can the ICJ say that his claim is true? On what basis?” he asked. “We have a government. The government of Malaysia and the Conference of Rulers should recognise it first,” he said.
“Somebody coming out of blue to claim he is the Sultan of Malacca is just not right. Where are these people coming from?” he asked.
“I don’t agree with his claim and so-called decision (of ICJ) at all. The issue should not be prolonged. Don’t make him as a hero,” added Syed Ali.
Melaka Chief Minister Idris Haron said Raja Noor had also tried to challenge the Federal Constitution..
The constitution, among other things mentions Malacca as one of the states administered by a federal representative as the head of state, namely the governor of Malacca who is appointed by the King.
He said the legal counsel of the Malacca state government will look into the matter and take appropriate action against any party who tried to make misleading claims about the status of the state.
Idris said Malacca only recognises medals and honorary titles given by the governor of Malacca, Mohd Khalil Yaakob.
