
Five foreign nationals drowned and 31 are still missing after a wooden
boat they were on sank two miles from Sungai Air Hitam, off Banting, just after midnight.
Banting fire and rescue personnel arrived at the scene half-an-hour
after a distress call was received at 12.24am.
Authorities later said 61 passengers were rescued and
said the boat which carried 97 passengers, had been hit by a storm.
Search and rescue (SAR) operations are ongoing to find the remaining
passengers with the fire and rescue services department monitoring the
coast.
Kuala Langat OCPD Azman Abdul Razak confirmed that five perished
in the capsize and their bodies recovered.
A Reuters report, quoting a government maritime agency, said the
passengers were believed to be Indonesians.
