The police's Twitter account at @PDRMsia appeared to have been hacked hours after the force's Facebook page suffered the same fate.
The latest tweet at @PDRMsia about 10 minutes ago said that police could not wait for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to resign.
"Kami warga pdrm tak saber tunggu najib letak jawatan," it said. (We PDRM personnel cannot wait for Najib to step down.)
"Kami nak beri amaran pada menteri amaran....jgn nak bekap2 kazen ko tu...hidup ATM ! hidup Dr.M !" the tweet said. (We want to warn the minister who likes to give warnings…don't backup your cousin… Long live the military! Long live Dr M!)
The tweet was referring to former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who has been a vocal critic of Najib over his policies and especially government-owned 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).
"Najib Razak… we are coming to you…" another tweet read.
The hacking follows the defacement of the police's Facebook page, which had its cover and profile pictures changed to images of the Islamic State of Syria and Iraq (Isis).
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar acknowledged the hacking and said a team of experts have been assigned to deal with the cyber attack.
"The incident occurred at 2.20pm and the team is already working on the issues," Khalid told reporters when met at the Low Yat Plaza in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon.
Both its Twitter and Facebook accounts have been temporarily suspended.
