PETALING JAYA: With the intention of protecting the integrity of the institution she worked in, Umno rebel Anina Saadudin announced her resignation as a lecturer at a private university and in doing so, asked only one question of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak: “When will you do the same?”
Anina, whose Umno membership was terminated due to the legal action she took against her party president, said she had decided to relinquish her only source of income following the move by certain quarters to question the university she was in the employ of.
“I was the one who chose to take Najib to task and hence, I do not want the university to suffer for my decision.
“I feel responsible for the image of my university as well as the future of the thousands of students studying there,” she said in an exclusive interview with FMT yesterday.
She argued that if she, a normal citizen with a family to support could put the good name of her institution and the welfare of her students above her needs, Najib as the Prime Minister responsible for the future of over 30 million Malaysians, should do the same.
“I challenge him to be a responsible head of the country and listen to the pleas of his people. Let go of your (Najib) position. If I can do it, why can’t you?”
She expressed no fear over her move, saying that she had the support of God and the prayers of millions of Malaysians who wanted the same thing as she did.
She also asked once again for Najib to relinquish his post, which she argued, had over the years tarnished the reputation of Umno and the country.
“Now I can start afresh. I can fight him (Najib) better and I am not afraid to do so. I have the courage to drag Najib to court because I believe in God. I will not die because of him. I will not die from my battle with him.
“I will move forward and face any challenges that come my way head on. Even the High Court’s verdict to set aside my legal suit against Najib cannot stop me because as I see it, failure is just an opportunity for me to renew my fight.”
Anina on August 28, 2015 filed a lawsuit against Najib and Umno executive secretary Ab Rauf Jusoh, seeking for the return of the controversial RM2.6 billion “donation” from an unnamed Middle Eastern donor.
She claimed that by having the donation deposited into his personal accounts instead of the party’s, he had breached Umno’s Constitution, the provisions of the Societies Act 1966 and his common law duties as a trustee.
