Nor Azimah Ibrahim, the Malaysian woman reported missing while performing the umrah (minor haj) in Madinah, Saudi Arabia, is believed to be still in the holy city.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican said the Malaysian consulate in Jeddah was working closely with the police and investigators in Madinah to track down Azimah.
"This is all the information that I can give for now. The authorities and the ministry will update if more news is received," he told reporters after handing over the keys for the surau of Sekolah Kebangsaan Kepala Batas today.
On the day she went missing, the single parent said she was not feeling well and did not follow her parents to visit the Nabawi Mosque.
On another issue, Reezal said Malaysia respected Saudi Arabia's decision to sever diplomatic ties with Iran and expressed hope that the issue could be resolved through talks.
"We practise a democracy based on non-interference in the affairs of other countries. Conflicts should be resolved via negotiations, mediation and moderation."
