The work was 80% complete when it suddenly came down piece by piece.
KLANG: Fifty-seven construction workers at a shopping centre here escaped injuries when the plaster ceiling of the building’s banquet hall which was being installed collapsed today.
North Klang police chief ACP Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the incident occurred at 10.45am when workers were busy renovating the hall located on the first floor of the building.
He said they managed to run to safety when the plaster ceiling of the 1,858 sq m hall which was almost 80% completed, started falling down piece by piece.
“The renovation of the hall began a month ago and the cause of the incident has yet to be determined.
“We have asked the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) to inspect the scene,” he told reporters here today.
Yusoff said no member of the public was involved in the incident as the hall was closed for renovation. -FMT
