Developer pledges to cooperate with authorities in landslide probe



The developer of the housing project in Tanjung Bungah which suffered a landslide that killed 11 recently, said it has complied with all conditions and had the necessary approvals from the relevant authorities before commencing work at the site.
In a statement, Taman Sri Bunga Sdn Bhd, the property division of the Boon Siew Group, pledged to continue abiding with all directives pending the conclusion of the investigations into the tragedy.
“We will at all times give our full cooperation to all the relevant authorities and agencies to assist them to conclude the findings of their own inquiry and investigation in a speedy manner," it said, adding that it was also carrying out a full postmortem into the matter with independent consultants.
Arup Jururunding Sdn Bhd (Penang), a “reputable engineering firm with international presence”, has been tasked to conduct an independent assessment to find the cause of the landslide.
“They will also probe long-term and short-term safety measures to ensure that a similar incident will not occur."
Expressing gratitude to the various agencies involved in the search and rescue mission, the company further urged parties to avoid speculating over the cause of the incident and allow the investigation to take its course.
Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng formed a State Commission of Inquiry into the tragedy last Saturday, which killed 11 workers - 10 foreigners and a local. The project has since been slapped with a stop work order.- Mkini
