MACC ARRESTS STAFF OF FORMER SELANGOR MENTERI BESAR

SHAH ALAM – A former staff of the Selangor Menteri Besar’s Office and the owner of a company supplying souvenirs were arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Wednesday for alleged involvement in graft and abuse of power related to the awarding of projects to provide souvenirs to the office last year.
Sources said the first suspect, aged 38, was the former administrative assistant of the office.
He was arrested at 12.30pm at his work place.
He was believed to have accepted bribes worth RM16,566 from the souvenir company owner last year in return for putting in recommendations to the Selangor Menteri Besar’s Office.
The company owner, aged 59, was arrested at about 3.30pm.
His 52-year-old wife, believed to have been conspired with the duo, was also detained.
Meanwhile, Selangor MACC director Datuk Wan Ramli Wan Abdullah confirmed the arrests.
“They will be brought to Shah Alam court tomorrow to be remanded,” he said.
