MALACCA IS FALLING: GROANS OF DISAPPOINTMENT IN UMNO STRONGHOLD AS DR M UNABLE TO SPEAK AT RALLY – BUT CHEERS RING OUT AS MUKHRIZ URGE THEM TO ‘JUMP SHIP’

GIVE us five years to turn the country around and if we don’t perform, kick us out. That was Mukhriz Mahathir’s rallying cry to about 1,000 people in Alor Gajah, Malacca, last night.
He said the current economic crisis and with the mismanagement of the country’s finances, allowing the Najib ‎administration another term will be a disaster for all.
“The people must choose a party which will look after their needs and save this country,” the Bersatu deputy president said.
“With the economy doing badly, the high cost of living, all can be lost in the blink of an eye.”
He said Pakatan only needed five years to show Malaysians they can turn things around, urging the crowd to support the opposition coalition in the 14th general election. PH comprises PKR, DAP, Bersatu and PAS-splinter party Amanah.
“But if there are no changes in that five years, kick us out.”
Mukhriz was speaking at the Save Malaysia, Save the People roadshow, or Jelajah Semarak, which was also to feature star speaker Dr Mahathir Mohamad. But the Bersatu chairman did not turn up as he was unwell.
They were sighs and groans of disappointment when Mukhriz took the stage and apologised for his father’s no-show.
“Dr Mahathir has been attending many events in Kedah, Perlis and other states. He needs some time to rest,”   he said.

Mukhriz also urged the crowd, who were mostly Umno supporters, not to waste time and “jump ship” to join Bersatu.
“We used to be in Umno because we believed our fight was pure. We used to work hard to get the trust of the people. But the Umno we know has changed.
“If Dr Mahathir, Muhiyiddin Yassin and others have left Umno, what are you people here waiting for?” he said to cheers from the crowd standing under five large canopies in front of a row of shops at Jalan Sg Petai Permai Dua Utama.
Mukhriz blamed the disorganised Barisan Nasional government for the high cost of living and the belt-tightening that most Malaysians have to endure.
“And if there is anyone to blame, it is Najib (Razak) and his people.”
Jelajah Semarak was launched in April, at almost the same time as Pakatan Harapan’s “Save Malaysia, End Kleptocracy” campaign. The latter ended with a rally in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, on October 14.
Jelajah Semarak is Bersatu’s roadshow and its speakers are almost always Dr Mahathir, Mukhriz and party president Muhyiddin Yassin.
The message in both campaigns, however, is the same: the corrupt Najib administration must be ousted at GE14.
