Rafizi laughs off Papagomo's Invoke trademark stunt

PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli has laughed off blogger Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris' attempt to stop him from using his research institute Invoke's name and logo.
Rafizi said even though Wan Muhammad Azri, popularly known as Papagomo, had trademarked Invoke Solutions and its logos, he still needs a court order to stop the research body from using the brand.
"He has registered Invoke's brand, but what he doesn't realise is that to stop the real Invoke from using the name and logo, he has to sue us.
"And it is a joke to think he can afford a lawyer to sue us," Rafizi told Malaysiakini.
He cited Wan Muhammad Azri's own remarks at a press conference today that the blogger could not afford a lawyer to represent him in his appeals to Anwar Ibrahim's defamation suits.
Wan Muhammad Azri revealed that he had trademarked the Invoke brand with the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) after discovering Rafizi had not done so.
He had done so as part of his efforts to raise funds to pay over RM900,000 that he owes Anwar in damages and costs.
Anwar's lawyers have filed a notice to declare Wan Muhammad Azri as bankrupt if he can't make the payment.
Rafizi said he does not wish to entertain Wan Muhammad Azri's stunt and would let the blogger go bankrupt.
If the blogger does somehow secure support from Umno to sue Invoke, the Pandan MP is confident that he has a strong case and can win.
He added that suing Invoke would only raise its public profile, and help the institute to muster up more supporters and funders.
Rafizi had unveiled Invoke in September last year, to conduct surveys and carry out volunteer work.- Mkini
