GE14 | In an effort to ease traffic and tackle social ills, PAS has pledged to move the Zouk nightclub out of the Titiwangsa parliamentary constituency if it wins the seat in the 14th general election.
Titiwangsa PAS candidate Mohamad Noor Mohamad said the club, located along the Kampung Pandan roundabout, should be moved to a non-Muslim majority area.
"From 10pm onwards, we can see that traffic there is bad, and what's more depressing is to see some Muslims entertaining themselves there.
"Statistics show that 71 percent of the 65,000 voters in Titiwangsa are Malays.
"So the club should be moved to an are where the majority are non-Muslims, such as Bukit Bintang or other locations that are appropriate for such entertainment," Mohamad Noor was quoted as saying by Berita Harian.
He was speaking at a press conference today, to lay out PAS' manifesto for the constituency, which addressed issues including Kampung Baru reserve land, the fate of traders in Pasar Keramat, and parking problems for PPR flats.
Mohamad Noor is confident that he can secure 60 percent of the vote in the fight for Titiwangsa, as both BN and Harapan do not have candidates who are desired by the constituents.
BN is fielding its incumbent and caretaker second finance minister Johari Abdul Ghani, while Harapan is fielding Bersatu Women's chief Rina Harun.
Both of them have been dogged by internal party disagreements over their candidacy.
Last month, banners were strung up across the constituency calling on Umno to field someone else in the seat.
Johari had decried the banners as "character assassination," and blamed a certain individual within the local Umno division, whom he said had aspirations to usurp him as the Titiwangsa MP.
Meanwhile, Rina had replaced the local Bersatu division's pick for the seat, party deputy strategist Wan Saiful Wan Jan.
One Bersatu leader had claimed there was back seat dealings which led to Rina's candidacy, and that it would give Johari an easy win for the seat.
Titiwangsa is one of the most hotly contested seats in the Federal Territories.
Johari narrowly won the seat in 2013 with an 866-vote majority. - Mkini
