Syed Saddiq defends Dr M’s speech at Malay Dignity Congress

KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia youth (Armada) chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has defended Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s remarks during the Malay Dignity Congress.
He said Dr Mahathir was merely telling the Malays to reflect upon themselves, rather than blame others for the issues they faced.
“He was telling us not to immediately blame other races for our problems.
"Instead, we need to go through self-reflection on how we can improve together.

“The Malays must find a way together to solve our problems, rather than looking for someone to blame.

“I think that is the important narrative and message we should take from it, ” he told reporters during a press conference at the Parliament lobby on Tuesday (Oct 29).
Syed Saddiq also said Dr Mahathir’s speech during the Malay Dignity Congress last Oct 6 was the same that was delivered during a forum involving members of Pakatan Harapan youth wing on Oct 5.
“He expressed the same view that we shouldn’t immediately blame other communities for our problems, ” he said.
“We need to march forward stronger and faster together. We are all Malaysians.
"Every community has its own issues. But we need to ensure that we find a solution together without blaming other races, ” he added.
On Oct 25, Dr Mahathir said he was hurt that Malays were being accused of being racist for participating in the recent Malay Dignity Congress.
He said while other ethnic groups were free to hold gatherings to discuss their affairs, Malays were being accused of being racist when they held such a gathering.- Star
