Sanusi claims fed govt barred him from events for leaking 'secrets'

Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor claimed that his alleged barring from federal government events was because he was accused of leaking “government secrets”.

In a ceramah video uploaded on his Facebook account earlier today, Sanusi said the matter was revealed to him purportedly by a senior government official in Kedah, who showed to the menteri besar a copy of the cabinet decision to bar him from federal government functions.

According to Sanusi, the issue purportedly stemmed from what he said during a sermon in Sungai Besar, Selangor recently, where he spoke about Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim delivering a presentation for the Finance Ministry himself instead of the Treasury secretary-general.

The meeting, he said, was between the prime minister and the states’ menteri besar and chief ministers and was held in conjunction with a Malay rulers’ meeting on the same day. Also present then were federal ministers.

“... when the time came for a presentation by the Finance Ministry, it was done by the minister (Anwar) himself. Because he had put the then Treasury secretary-general in cold storage,” Sanusi said in the video.

“After the meeting, I had a ceramah in Sungai Besar. During my talk, I told the story about the meeting.

“I said a presentation by the Housing and Local Government Ministry was done by an officer but for the Finance Ministry, the PM who is also the finance minister himself had to do it because his secretary-general did not attend,” he elaborated further.

‘A silly excuse’

The menteri besar claimed that this was the reason used by the cabinet to block him from attending federal government events, even those in Kedah.

Questioning the logic of the cabinet decision, Sanusi lambasted the federal administration, which he claimed had gone backward by barring him over a small issue.

The Jeneri state assemblyperson also claimed that what he spoke about at the meeting was not considered a secret.

“So, I was blocked from participating in any federal events just because I spoke about Anwar presenting a paper himself.

“This is such a silly excuse. What is the secret here? What I said (in the ceramah) was nothing confidential. The identity of the person presenting the paper was not confidential.

“The word confidential is written on the paper, so the content of the paper is secret. I only said who presented, not the content of the presentation,” Sanusi said.

Sanusi recently claimed that he has been barred from attending events organised by the federal government.
