PETALING JAYA: Parking fees collected by seven local authorities in Selangor have gone up by an average of 38% since a smartphone parking app came into use a year ago.

State executive councillor Ng Sze Han said the highest increase in parking revenue was in Klang (59%) followed by Kajang (49%), Shah Alam ( 48%), Selayang (37%) and Ampang Jaya (35%). The lowest increase was in Petaling Jaya (23%) and Subang Jaya (18%).

He said 98% of motorists in the seven towns used the smartphone app to pay their parking charges, which he said was beyond their expectations.

“Only 0.5% of the motorists made their payment at KK Mart outlets while another 1.3% paid at SSP agents which were mostly monthly passes.

There was also a small increase of 6,000 parking compound notices issued in these areas, to a total of 349,000 since March 2022,

“Klang recorded the highest with a 59% increase in parking revenue while Kajang saw a hike of 49%. It was 48% in Shah Alam, 37% in Selayang, 35% in Ampang Jaya, and Subang Jaya 23%. The average increase in the state was 38%,” he told FMT.

Ng said the system is efficient and cost effective as there is no longer a need to print parking coupons. - FMT
