ANOTHER flag gaffe at a dental clinic in Pontian, Johor has somehow vindicated UMNO Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh who is due to be charged at the Bukit Mertajam magistrate’s court tomorrow (Aug 22) over statements deemed to threaten public order in the recent Jalur Gemilang row which entailed war of words with DAP.

“I want to wait and see what the reason for this case is and I want to hear what excuse the back-up guy (taking a swipe at DAP) has to offer” he penned on his Facebook (FB) page.

“When we rebuke them, we’re considered racist, we’re considered politicising the matter yet they don’t know how to take care of our feelings.
“This is not about race nor politics but about respect for our homeland! Anyway, rest assured for we (UMNO Youth) shall defend our homeland.”
Pertaining to the Pontian flag blunder, Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan who happens to be its MP said the matter has been rectified with a female clinic staff admitted to putting up the flag incorrectly unintentionally.
“Both the dentist and his female employee have given their statement to the police while several quarters and NGOs have filed police reports,” revealed the UMNO supreme council member in a FB post last night (Aug 20).

“Tomorrow (Aug 21), I shall meet and discuss with the Deputy OCPD at 11.45am at the Pontian district police headquarters (IPD).
Calling for calm, Ahmad assured that the relevant authorities are investigating the matter and will take the appropriate action.
“It’s important to remember that has nothing to do with racism. It’s a matter of sensitivity, thoroughness and patriotism,” he stressed,
“All races and quarters need to be careful when dealing with sensitive matters. The duty of those in power is to ensure that the law is always obeyed.”

Meanwhile, the Pontian Municipal Council said four individuals, namely two Malay women, one Chinese man and one Chinese woman were brought to the Pontian IPD by the police for further investigation.
“The premises had committed an offence under the council’s Flag Hoisting (Business and Industrial Trade Licensing) By-Laws 2019,” it added. – Focus Malaysia
