Alleged sexual harassment: Loke revokes e-hailing licence of Grab driver

The Transport Ministry has revoked the public service vehicle licence of a Grab driver who allegedly sexually harassed a female passenger in Johor Bahru recently.

Minister Anthony Loke said he ordered the licence revocation, preventing the driver from working for any e-hailing platform.

"The ministry, through the Land Public Transport Agency, will also call on all e-hailing operators, including Grab, to present action plans for improvements for passenger safety," he said in a statement today.

The ministry takes passenger safety seriously and will support victims by ensuring police action against perpetrators, he added.

According to the New Straits Times, Grab had issued an apology over the incident, which has since gone viral, in a comment on social media yesterday.

"Hi, we are deeply sorry that this incident occurred and acknowledge the seriousness of the matter. This should never have happened.

"We are aware of the report and are actively reaching out to the affected passenger to investigate the matter and provide appropriate support.

"We take this seriously and will take action in line with our policies," the company said.

The woman had filmed the incident, which showed the driver reaching a hand to the back, where she was seated, and trying to touch her.

He can also be heard asking her questions in Mandarin, such as her age this year and how much she "costs".

Yesterday, Johor Bahru Selatan district police chief Raub Selamat said the victim has yet to lodge a report on the incident. - Mkini
