KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) will hold a special Supreme Council meeting tomorrow following the sacking of its influential deputy president, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.
In a notice signed by the party's secretary-general, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, members were notified that the meeting would take place at 10am at the residence of party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in Bukit Damansara.
Azmin urged all council members to attend and contribute constructive ideas and proposals for the party's future.
"It is the responsibility of Supreme Council members to attend and provide constructive suggestions for the future of Bersatu. Your cooperation and attention are greatly appreciated," he added.
The meeting comes amid heightened political tension within the party following Hamzah's dismissal earlier today.
Earlier, Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Azmin Ali confirmed that the Supreme Leadership Council had been notified of the disciplinary board's decision to sack Hamzah.
Hamzah may appeal to the party's appeals board within 14 days from the notice date.
According to letters sighted by the New Straits Times, Bersatu MPs Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal (Machang), Fathul Huzir Ayob (Gerik) and Azahari Hassan (Padang Rengas) have also had their memberships terminated.
Also sacked were Bersatu Sabah secretary Yunus Nurdin, who had previously called for Muhyiddin to resign, and Mohd Hassundi Hamzah of the Larut division. - NST
