NILAI: An e-hailing driver and his passenger were critically injured after their car was crushed by a fallen tree along the road leading to Inti College here at around 5pm yesterday.
Nilai district police chief, Superintendent Johari Yahya, said it took authorities about 20 minutes to extricate both victims from the trapped vehicle.
"The police received information through the MERS NG 999 system (RC Melaka) regarding a fallen tree that struck a Perodua Bezza carrying two local men.
"A team from Nilai police station, together with the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia and the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), was dispatched to the scene to carry out rescue operations," he said in a statement yesterday.
Johari said the driver, a 39-year-old e-hailing operator, was reportedly traumatised and could not recall the incident.
"The victim was also unable to move both legs and is suspected to have sustained injuries or fractures. Further examination, including X-rays, is being conducted to determine the extent of his injuries," he added.
The second victim, a 41-year-old passenger who works as an engineer for Malaysia Airlines, suffered internal bleeding in the head, internal injuries in the abdomen, and is suspected to have fractures in both arms. - NST
