Sacked Bersatu duo to keep state govt posts - Kedah MB

Kedah Menteri Besar Sanusi Nor said two former Bersatu assemblypersons will retain their government positions despite being expelled from their party.

The two are Suka Menanti assemblyperson Dzowahir Ghani, who will continue to serve as the state exco for agriculture, plantation, and transport, and Sungai Tiang assemblyperson Abdul Razak Khamis, who will continue as deputy speaker of the state assembly.

Sanusi (above) described their performance as satisfactory and said there is no need to replace them.

“They can carry on with their work as usual. Those who were sacked are all okay. Their work is good,” The Star quoted him as saying.

Additionally, state government agency Darul Aman Information Secretariat reported that Sanusi told a special PAS central working committee meeting in Terengganu last Sunday that the expulsions had not affected Kedah’s political stability.

The menteri besar also dismissed claims that he was under pressure following Bersatu’s disciplinary action against the two representatives.

“There is no pressure. I am good with everyone, and there is no problem. As menteri besar, I want to make sure the state remains stable and peaceful, and that work goes on smoothly.

“The state administration is running well, and blessings are flowing,” he said, stressing that ties among Perikatan Nasional component parties remained cordial.

Sanusi added that his remarks at political ceramahs should not be conflated with his duties as menteri besar, as he was also speaking in his capacity as PAS election director.

“As election director, I have another role. I have to go for the ceramah because that role is there. When I wear that hat, I will talk about politics,” he added.

Strife within Bersatu

Bersatu previously urged the Kedah government to replace Dzowahir and Razak before the pair were expelled on May 8 for breaching party rules and its code of ethics.

The disciplinary action also saw six other Bersatu elected representatives suspended for two party election terms.

This included Chenderoh assemblyperson Syed Lukman Hakim Syed Zain, Kuala Sepetang assemblyperson Ahmad Man, Tanah Merah MP Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz, Rompin MP Khalib Abdullah, and Lumut MP Nordin Ahmad Ismail.

Meanwhile, three others were issued warning letters: Kulim Bandar-Baru MP Roslan Hashim, Sabak Bernam MP Kalam Salan, and Kangar MP Zakri Hassan.

Following the expulsions, Sanusi had said the state government would take the necessary steps, including seeking an audience with Kedah ruler Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah, to discuss the matter.

He also maintained that the two assemblypersons were not part of the opposition, but independents aligned with the state government. - Mkini
