PETALING JAYA:
Julau MP Larry Sng has urged the police to ensure no cover-ups in their investigation into the attack at Tunku Putra-HELP International School (TPH) in Kuching, Sarawak, involving a 16-year-old suspect.

The Parti Bangsa Malaysia president said the authorities should release information on the case quickly and transparently, citing rumours it involves the child of a “very powerful political family” in Sarawak.

“This is a very unfortunate incident and I do not wish to make this a political matter. But I want to remind the authorities involved that information released must be quick, transparent and factual.

“Just remember the case of Zara Qairina Mahathir in Sabah – without proper clarity, the issue became a highly political matter,” he said in a Facebook post.

Sng reiterated that he did not want to politicise the matter but maintained that this was a case of great public interest.

Yesterday, the teenage suspect allegedly attacked a teacher at TPH with a hatchet, injuring her hand. The suspect had also livestreamed the incident on social media.

Sarawak acting police chief Saifullizan Ishak said the student was detained and later released on bail.

Today, Sarawak police said a press conference on the case would be held on Oct 27. The case is being probed under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon and Section 6(1) of the Explosives Act 1957. - FMT
