Zahid cancels on mega ‘ummah unity’ event at Kelantan stadium

 PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan says the Umno president has to attend a major party event in Melaka on the same day.

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was supposed to deliver a speech at the Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, where about 100,000 people are expected to be in attendance on Friday.

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has cancelled on a mega “ummah unity” event organised by PAS at the Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, this Friday.

PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said the Barisan Nasional chairman had to attend an Umno event in Melaka on the same day, Sinar Harian reported.

Takiyuddin said Zahid was supposed to deliver a speech, along with PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, at Friday’s event which is expected to draw more than 100,000 people.

“(Kelantan Umno) conveyed their president’s greetings and apology (for not being able to attend the event) as Umno is organising a major event in Melaka on Oct 23,” he said.

The Kota Bharu MP added that Kelantan Umno voiced its intention to organise another ummah unity event in Kelantan after the Melaka polls on Nov 14.

Takiyuddin nonetheless urged PAS members to ensure a full turnout at the event this Friday, which aims to commemorate 36 years of Kelantan being governed by the Islamic party. - FMT
