Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) Youth Wing held a brief demonstration on Monday outside the now abandoned tower blocks of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) here as a reminder that the city has been without a general hospital for 600 days.
The group of about 20 SAPP youth members led by Stephen Gaimin, Edward Dagul and Chong Pit Fah managed to carry out the peaceful campaign for several minutes, under the close watch of 10 policemen.
The police came in six cars to monitor the demonstration after the application by SAPP Youth on June 15 for a permit to hold the gathering was rejected.
However, they allowed the SAPP Youth to proceed with the rally for a few minutes before asking them to disperse.
Gaimin said that though they did not obtain a police permit they decided to proceed with what they had planned to remind the government of the urgent need to improve healthcare services in the state capital.
