Bomb explodes in Cheras, two injured

A make-shift bomb placed in front of an apartment in Desa Tun Razak, Cheras exploded this morning, seriously injuring two and causing minor damage to at least 5 other units, Star reported today.

At about 8.30am a 51-year-old heard a knock on his door found, at the doorstep of his apartment on the 12th floor, a box with two limes placed on top. He detected petrol fumes and asked his neighbours if anyone had seen who had left the box, but received negative replies. The box, filled with kerosene and fireworks, exploded when two of his workers from his two businesses on the ground floor opened the box under his instructions. The woman, 51, and the man, 38 suffered 90 percent burns, according to Star, and have been warded at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital in critical condition.

Acting Cheras OCPD ACP Ahmad Amir Mohd Hashim said police have not ruled out business rivalry as a motive behind the bomb, even though the apartment owner had denied ever receiving any threats. The apartment owner runs an Internet cafe and a restaurant at the premises.
