Schoolboys and girls fight on YouTube - A new menace in the MAKING

Video clips of students fighting in a secondary school at Kuching in Sarawak have made their way to the Internet.

One of the clips showing a fight involving at least three female secondary students was posted on YouTube under the title “Green Road Fights” on Thursday.

The clip shows one of the girls trying to mediate a dispute between two students but the effort turns sour and they end up chasing and beating each other along the corridor of one of the classroom blocks. A headscarf of one of the girls is even pulled by another girl.

Another clip under the same title featured two male students beating and kicking each other as a group of boys cheered them on.

SMK Green Road principal Putit Ped said he was unaware of any recent fights among his students.

“I will call for a meeting with my teachers to view the videos because sometimes the students may just be acting out fight scenes.

“But if those fights were genuine, then they are very serious offences for those involved and those who recorded the fights and posted them on YouTube,” he said yesterday.

Putit said the school would also inform the Education Department on the action to be taken.

He said the school banned students from bringing gadgets to school.

“Bringing handphones and digital cameras to school is a major offence and students will receive demerit points,” he said.

State Education director Mortadza Alop could not be reached for comment.
