Zunar detained by police but CARTOON-O-PHOBIA launch on

Malaysia Chronicle

Just hours to go before the launch of his third book Cartoon-o-phobia, Zunar or Zulkiflee Anwar Ulhaque was detained by the police who raided his office in Brickfields around 4 pm.

"Even so, Datuk Nizar Jamaluddin will proceed with the launch at the Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall tonight (at 8pm)," PKR strategic director Tian Chua told Malaysia Chronicle.

"Needless to say, we condemn this latest act of intimidation. It is yet another example of the false democracy practiced by Prime Minister Najib Razak and the BN government. We call on all Malaysians who love democracy to take note and register their protest by attending the launch. Do not give in to bullying."

Zunar's office - Sepakat Efektif Sdn Bhd - was raided by five police officers led by ASP Arikrishna Apparau from the Brickfields station. Zunar was arrested under Section 4 (1) of the Sedition Act.

Police also seized a poster depicting Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor.

Arikrishna said police had received a complaint against CARTOON-O-PHOBIA and that 66 copies were seized for investigation purposes.

This was challenged by Zunar's lawyer Latheefa Koya, who said the police's main purpose was to disrupt tonight's launch of the book.

Cartoon-o-phobia will be sold at RM25. It can be purchased online via Gerakbudaya and Cartoon Kafe.
