Umno killing itself in Batu Sapi

By FMT Staff

SANDAKAN: The war between Umno vice-president Shafie Apdal and Sabah Chief Minster Musa Aman camps is now an open secret, according to former Sabah Umno leader sponsor Karim Ghani.

He said it was now public knowledge that both groups were trying to sabotage each others efforts in Batu Sapi in a bid to control Sabah politics.

He said Shafie's group is actively working towards ensuring that Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) candidate Yong Teck Lee wins the Batu Sapi parliamentary constituency on Nov 4.

The seat fell vacant following the death of incumbent Edmund Chong on Oct 9. Sabah BN has fielded his widow Linda Tsen, 54, as their candidate.

Karim said the open-war between the two camps had reached the ears of Umno president Najib Tun Razak who has issued a stern warning, to both groups, to stop immediately.

"Their (Shafie's camp) aim is to embarass Musa Aman as the Sabah Umno liasion chief and Batu Sapi election director," said Karim.

He urged Usno members, who had joined Umno, not to vote for the BN candidate, who is from Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS).

"This is because in 1985, PBS betrayed Usno and suppressed Usno for 10 years.

"I hope Usno members will show their hatred for PBS and not vote their candidate," he said.

Karim said Batu Sapi was an important prelude to the 13th general election where only BN or Pakatan Rakyat had the ability to form the government.

In view of this, he said it would be a waste if Batu Sapi voters gave their support to SAPP which was only a state party.
