PKR exposes Jonson: The real lies, damn lies and crass stupidity

Jonson - part of the John Soh clique
Wong Choon Mei, Malaysia Chronicle

PKR leaders had harsh words for their former comrade Jonson Chong, accusing him of joining hands with enemies of the party to tarnish them with false accusations and not giving the full picture of a situation they said he could not be unaware of.

“We are disgusted at his behaviour. As a lawyer and the former deputy secretary-general, he should handle himself with greater ethics and tell both sides of the story. We wonder why he did not mention that Jenapala left to form a new party which already automatically strips him of membership,” PKR strategic director Tian Chua told Malaysia Chronicle.

“It is strange that Jonson has somehow forgotten this fact. Sallehuddin as the then sec-gen issued a letter notifying Jenapala of his sacking because he was also bankrupt. Now, what is being contended is, did Salehuddin sign this letter. Is it really a forgery as he claims? We would point that despite making dozens of allegations, Salehuddin has not denied the signature is his. Seems to me Jonson and his batch are just seizing of Saifuddin’s comments to make it seem as though PKR had forged Salehuddin’s signature.”

Back-stabbing

In a article entitled to grab maximum attention Lies, damn lies and stupidity, Jonson lashed out at his former party. He seized on a news report that that bore this quote from current secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution,“All we did was open our files and found the letter that Salehuddin signed... How am I supposed to know if his signature was forged.”

Saifuddin
“Does he expect members, supporters and the public to just accept this lame explanation and conclude all is well in the party?” wrote Johnson.

“I was speechless because there is no doubt in my mind that the letter is a forgery, and I am dumbfounded that they could resort to such a thing to cover up an honest mistake, for which they could have just humbly informed the media and move on. Now, in light of the police report lodged by the previous sec-gen, this matter cannot be swept under the carpet anymore; especially not the way the current sec-gen attempted to do it. I’m amazed that he doesn’t see the gravity of the situation.”

Tian
But according to PKR sources, Saifuddin was only stating the obvious.

They said the letter containing Salehuddin’s signature was found in PKR’s file as it should have been, and since Salehuddin claimed it was a forgery, it is right and proper for Saifuddin to disclaim knowledge of whether it is really a forgery or not until investigations have been carried out. It must be pointed that Saifuddin did assure full co-operation with the police on the matter.

“We are sickened by Johnson’s blatant back-stabbing and shocked he could stoop so low as to seize on a news report to smear Saifuddin, who has always been kind to everyone. We wonder at his motives and slam the hidden hands driving him from behind, but to be frank, this is not an unexpected development given that he belongs to the clique that is now rightly or wrongly called the Trojan horses,” said Tian.

Jenapala also disqualified himself by forming new party

PKR sources close to Jenapala, who was sacked in Feb 2009 after being found to be a bankrupt, also toldMalaysia Chronicle that he had set up a new political party and was acting as its adviser.

Jenapala - troublemaker for PKR
They said this fact itself automatically disqualified him as a PKR member, but Jonson only wrote, “When the Jenapala matter first came up during the party election, someone from the HQ called me to ask whether there was a letter sent to Jenapala to sack him. I said there isn’t such a letter and there never was such a decision to sack him. There was only a decision to sack him in principle, if indeed it was found that he was involved in the formation of a new political party.”

They accused Jonson of telling the very lies that he had accused his former party of telling. Malaysia Chronicle appends below 4 articles published in the Tamil newspapers in 2009 (scroll below), tracking his intention to form the Malaysian Indian Democratic Justice Party on August 22 and Sept 1 to his resignation from PKR on Sept 3 and establishing a five-member team to meet with Pakatan Rakyat leaders on Sept 14.

“Who is the real liar and who is the real stupid is now available for the people to see and judge. What sort of a man Jenapala and Jonson and their group are is clear for all to assess. We will lay out all the facts. We did not manufacture the reisgnation just as we did not manufacture these Namban news reports,” the source said.

“As Syed Husin has said, if you want to get out, just get out. Don’t try to curry favour with Umno at our expense and don’t try to hit back at Anwar Ibrahim and Pakatan Rakyat in this sort of way.”

Salehuddin's signature

However, despite a surfeit of evidence of Jenapala’s duplicitous intentions, the crux of the matter as far as the Salehuddin police report against Saifuddin and PKR goes is, who signed the letter notifying Jenapala that he had been sacked.

John Soh - fell out with Anwar
“Just as in the Altantuya murder, we are always asking Najib and Rosmah, who ordered the killing, we are now asking Salehuddin, Jonson, and their group, who signed the Jenapala letter?” the source asked.

The source also pointed out that in his affidavit, Salehuddin took great care to stress that the letter was a forgery, that he never authorized it, that as sec-gen he had no authority to sack anyone without the Supreme Council’s approval, that the language, format and stye of the letter was not his. However, at no time, did Salehuddin deny the signatures was not his.

Yet, according to the source, Jonson – a lawyer by profession – had the temerity and hypocrisy to skim over these facts, choosing instead to go all out and “kill PKR even though he is pretending to be doing it for the good of the party”.

Salehuddin
The source was referring to Jonson’s comment, “Now, I share my true feelings not because I want to embarrass the party but because I sense the presence of foolish arrogance in the voice of the party’s secretary-general. And I simply cannot remain silent in the face of bold-faced lies because I know it will eventually bring the party to its knees.”

Resignation from PKR

The PKR insider condemned Jonson’s “two-facedness”, revealing that he had already announced his plans to quit. He questioned why Jonson did not disclose this to readers as this would have a clear bearing on his neutrality.

According to the source, when Jonson emailed to elections committee chief Molly Cheah his wish to step down from the vice-president’s contest (in which he was trailing far behind), he also said he wished to resign as a PKR member.

Zaid Ibrahim
“If Jonson is ethical as he claims, he should have told readers his actual situation. It is clear he has got an axe to grind against PKR, hence the malicious article. After all, he is not happy to the extent he wishes to resign. It also appears he is trying to trip up the party. As the former deputy sec-gen, he should know very well which are the proper channels to submit his resignation to,” the source toldMalaysia Chronicle.

"As he himself has said in his article, a sec-gen has no power to sack, what power does Molly Cheah have to accept his resignation then? Why send to her? Is he afraid of Anwar? His intentions smack of bad faith. Is he using the same modus operandi as Zaid Ibrahim to inflict maximum damage to PKR for whatever personal and political motive he may have?"
