Chegubard turns down deputy sec-gen post

A PKR leader has turned down the key deputy secretary-general post, protesting still the alleged fraud during the party’s first direct election.

Former central committee member Badrul Hisham Shaharin, better known as Chegubard, said he was forced into the decision because the promised internal probe has shown no outcome.

“After thinking long and taking into consideration various views, I wish to apologise to PKR president Datuk Seri Dr (Wan Azizah Wan Ismail) and my friends as I am forced to reject the appointment,” he said in a statement on his blog today.

“I agreed to wait patiently... as per the secretary-general’s advice, but I also asked him to mind his statement guaranteeing results from the investigation within two weeks. This promise lapsed during the (PKR) Convention 2010.”

Badrul Hisham, however, stressed that he still loved the party and said his demands were merely to ensure that the party was made “as perfect as possible” before taking federal power.

He urged those who wish to carry on PKR’s ideals to be brave enough to voice their concerns and not fall prey to the “corrupt election culture” practised by other parties where dissenters were bribed for their silence.

The PKR Rembau chief assured that he would still continue to empower the people even without a post in the central committee and said he was confident democracy and transparency was still alive in PKR — “although possibly very ill”.

Badrul Hisham’s statement today was unsurprising, given his prior statement that he would not accept any nomination to the central leadership due to lingering questions about whether party elections were conducted fairly. - Malaysian Insider
