BN'S MOHD AZAHAR WINS WITH 3,707 MAJORITY

LABIS: Barisan Nasional won the Tenang state seat by-election Sunday with an increased majority of 3,707 votes.

Its candidate Mohd Azahar Ibrahim polled 6,699 votes to defeat PAS' Normala Sudirman, who received 2,992 votes.

There were 142 spoilt votes.

The turnout was 67% or 9,833 voters.

At 10.08pm, the returning officer declared Mohd Azahar as the assemblyman for the Tenang constituency.

The seat fell vacant following the death of Barisan's Datuk Sulaiman Taha on Dec 17 last year.

Sulaiman had won the seat by a majority of 2,492 votes in the 2008 general election, defeating PAS' Md Saim Siran. - Star
