Tee Beng joins Kita, Pakatan congratulates Zaid on the 'coup'!

Konsensus Bebas member and Nibong Tebal MP Tan Tee Beng has joined Parti Kesejahteraan Insan Tanah Air (KITA) after a year in the independent parliamentary bloc led by mavericks such as Zahrain Hashim, the Bayan Baru MP, and Zulkifli Noordin, the MP for Kulim Bandar Bharu.

Tee Beng's entry into KITA was announced by its president Zaid Ibrahim. Both are former PKR members who left the party amid a cloud of controversy.

No wonder then that the news sparked sarcasm and derision from their former Pakatan rakyat colleagues, who applauded Zaid for his 'coup'.

"We wishto congratulate KITA for attracting such an MP with impeccable credentials and integrity to join them," DAP MP for PJ Utara Tony Pua said on his Twitter.

Ill prospects in Penang

Kita was launched on Jan 19, but already, it has been officially registered as a political party under the Registrar of Societies (ROS). This underscores the widespread speculation that it was a vehicle sponsored by some of the Umno elite for personal reasons of their own.

As for the 38-year old Tee Beng, he is the son of a Gerakan stalwart. Amid accusations that he had urgent debts, Tan left PKR last year after openly criticising Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

He was hauled before the PKR disciplinary board for deliberately plunging the Pakatan into disrepute despite several warnings.

Few pundits see Tee Beng as being able to win any seat in the whole of Penang and speculate that he may have been offered a seat to contest in northern Kedah state. - Malaysia Chronicle
