Customs director died from head injuries

Investigators have concluded that Customs officer Ahmad Sarbani Mohamed died from head injuries as a result of a fall.

KUALA LUMPUR: Investigators have concluded that Customs assistant director Ahmad Sarbani Mohamed died from head injuries resulting from a fall from a high place, Kuala Lumpur police chief Zulkifli Abdullah said today.

This finding followed a thorough investigation involving the police, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre and Chemistry Deparatment, among others, he told reporters here.

Asked if there was any criminal element involved, Zulkifli said the investigation was focused on “sudden death report (SDR)”, with no other provisions of the law being applied.

“I ask that all speculations cease because the investigation under SDR has been completed and it is now up to the Attorney-General’s Chambers to decide on further action,” he said after launching the 41st anniversary celebrations of the Police Cadet Corps at Tasik Titiwangsa here.

“The investigation papers will be sent to the A-G’s Chambers this week or next week at the latest,” Zulkifli added.

Ahmad Sarbani, 56, was found dead at the badminton court on the first floor of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission headquarters in Kuala Lumpur on April 6.

He was reported to have gone to the building in connection with the investiogation of corruption involving 62 customs officers.
