It's Anwar who's untouchable, claims Ibrahim

The Perkasa president says he is subject to the law, unlike the PKR de facto leader who gets away with many things.
Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali today shot down claims he is above the law, saying instead that PKR de facto chief Anwar Ibrahim is “untouchable” despite clearly defying the courts.

The Pasir Mas MP remained unapologetic for his alleged call to wage a 'perang salib' or holy war against Christians, saying he had done no wrong in making the remark.

ibrahim ali kerdau bn ceramahIbrahim (right) said he was only making a hypothetical statement as it is not proven that Islam's position is being challenged, but stressed that Anwar and his supporters have blatantly flouted the law.

“Anwar is untouchable. He and his supporters go around at ceramahs and everywhere defending (against his sodomy charge), when they know full well it is contempt of court.

“Ibrahim Ali is not untouchable. I am not above the law, but if you want to arrest (me) it must be for an offence,” he said when met after a meeting with senior Public Services Department (PSD) officers.

Two weeks earlier, Ibrahim had railed against the alleged pledge by a group of Christian leaders to create a Christian state in Malaysia, blaming certain parties for undermining the “sovereignty” and “dignity” of Islam as the nation's official religion and the Malays' special privileges.

He went so far as to accuse these parties of being agents of the banned Communist Party of Malaya, who are emboldened by support from Anwar, Islamic party PAS and Malay liberals.

Ibrahim pointed out that nobody gains from the government going out to arrest people for every single perceived infringement, pointing out that it would do more harm than good.

Taking the examples of PKR vice-president Tian Chua and former PKR-turned Independent MP N Gobalakrishnan - who were arrested in the past in connection with public rallies - Ibrahim said it would only embolden such people.

“Even the government does not want to arrest people, because it will only create heroes. I have been detained twice under the ISA, so if I get detained a third time I will come out with a PhD in ISA and I'll be viewed as a hero,” he said.

'I am bringing awareness'

Brushing aside claims that he is merely being provocative, Ibrahim argued that he is instead helping “raise awareness” over religious sensitivity among the public.

He said the countless angry responses from NGOs and blogs - without any actual violence - proved that he has achieved his intended goal.

“I have raised awareness, because this issue is now being discussed openly. This is better than having people putting up a pig's head in a surau, or burning a church... I use reverse psychology,” he said. - Malaysiakini
