Muhyiddin: Affordable homes soon for all Malaysians

May 29, 2011

The ongoing government initiative to help young urbanites buy homes will soon be available to all Malaysians, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today.

He said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had agreed to extend the My First Home Scheme (affordable quality housing programme), according to Bernama Online.

In the scheme, the government hands land over to the private sector who then build homes priced at RM220,000 and below, using the industrial building system.

He was speaking after opening the Bayan Baru Umno divisional delegates meeting in Penang.

Muhyiddin (picture) said that Pakatan Rakyat-run state did not have similar projects to help with homes for its people.

The My First Home Scheme presently is available to those 35 and below, with salaries less than RM3,000. The picked candidates will receive 100 per cent financing for these homes.

Muhyiddin added that the scheme looked at middle-income group individuals who were not currently home owners.

The deputy prime minister took the opportunity to pledge a fund to assist in the upkeep of flats because many were in disrepair for example their lifts.
