Sore losers shouldn’t revenge Sibu voters

DAP is ready to organise the Borneo Cultural Fest which was scrapped by the defeated BN's visionary team in Sibu.

KUCHING: State Opposition Leader Wong Ho Leng today accused the Barisan Nasional state government of being totally irresponsible, incompetent and inefficient in scrapping the Borneo Cultural Fest scheduled to be held in Sibu later this year.

“Since they are not competent to do it, let DAP do it and I will formally write a letter to Sibu Municipal Council asking to use the same venue as the organisers have been using for the past 10 years,” he said.

He said this while responding to the cancellation of the event which was announced by the SMC chairman Tiong Thai King. The event was cancelled as a result of the people’s support for the opposition in the recently concluded election.

“On the other hand, we feel it intolerable for the BN to threaten the rakyat. Now that the rakyat did not support the BN candidates, they start to scrap the cultural festival.

“In that sense I think the BN leaders are totally irresponsible, incompetent and inefficient. They are sore losers.

“Instead of making self-assessment and examing themselves as to why they lost, they look to punish the people,” said Wong, who is the Bukit Assek assemblyman and MP for Sibu.

“It is revenge against the rakyat for not supporting them,” he said.

Wong asked: “Why scrap only BCF in Sibu, and why not scrap the Rainforest festival and other festivals in Kuching?

“They are not scrapping them. Why? In other words, don’t think that Sibu folks are stupid.

“Let me assure the BN leaders the Sibu folks are not stupid for supporting the Pakatan Rakyat candidates and they must not be taken revenge of,” he said.

Last Wednesday the SMC decided to cancel the BCF after the BN/SUPP-led visionary team which started the festival nine years ago was defeated in the recently state polls.

The festival which has been show-casing cultural performances from the Chinese, Malay/Melanau and Dayak communities had been a star attraction both for locals and outsiders.

Several organisations have called on the council to proceed with the holding of the festival.

Meanwhile, Wong also expressed disappointment with Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak’s recent remarks that threatened the Chinese community by stating that a failure to support BN would mean no Chinese representatives in the federal cabinet.

“Our prime minister is leading a bad example in telling the people of Malaysia ‘no MCA or no more Chinese in the federal cabinet’.

“I thought that is totally rubbish. How can a prime minister threaten the people in that manner?
