Muhyiddin: Guan Eng irresponsible and should apologise

September 29, 2011

PONTIAN, Sept 29 — Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin called Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng irresponsible for allegedly criticising Johor at a Singapore function recently.

He said Lim was disrespectful to other Malaysian states, according to Bernama Online.

Muhyiddin (picture)said that Lim in his overzealousness to promote Penang was running down other states. The DPM was speaking to reporters after a gathering at Kampung Sungai Bunyi Jamek Mosque today.

He was responding to what Lim was reported to have said at a luncheon talk with the Foreign Correspondents Association in Singapore on August 12.

Muhyiddin said that when he was abroad he never discouraged countries from investing in opposition run states like Penang and Selangor.

The Johor MP said that crime around the country has dropped thanks to the hard work by the federal government and security agencies.

He said the national crime index dropped by 15 per cent in 2010 from the previous year with Johor recording a decrease of 8 per cent and Penang, a drop of 26 per cent.

On street crimes, he said Johor crime index in 2010 dropped by 47 per cent while Penang crime rate decreased by 27 per cent.

Muhyiddin said that Lim has erred and it is appropriate for him to apologise.
