Muhyiddin: All we need is Umno

Muhyiddin: All we need is Umno

UMNO’s moderate approach is what the country needs, unlike the Opposition’s style which is full of shortcomings, the party deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said.

He said the party’s approach suited the country well and was all that is needed by the people.

He said that as the backbone of Barisan Nasional, Umno has proved its commitment in bringing prosperity to the rakyat, regardless of race, through its power-sharing concept.

“The introduction of the New Economic Policy is a testimony of this because, despite the criticism, it remains a fact that all races benefitted from it.

“We will preserve the political reality of a multi-racial country to ensure stability, peace and harmony.

“We don’t sow the seeds of hatred or humiliate other religions.

“We are not racists like the DAP,” he said when opening the Wanita, Youth and Puteri assemblies at the Putra World Trade Centre last night.

Muhyiddin spent the opening part of his hour-long speech lashing out at the opposition parties, which he said were spreading lies and did not spare anyone including Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

The Deputy Prime Minister said the Opposition was so consumed by their intention to spread lies that slanders were hurled at Najib even when he was performing the haj.

“Their intentions are to fan hatred among the people towards the Umno leadership and to wrest political power,” he said.

Muhyiddin said the DAP’s victory in Penang and its domination of the Selangor Government had apparently given the “racist party” the licence to show its chauvinism.

“They never respect the institution of Malay rulers, humiliate the security forces and government officers, most of whom are Malays.

“The DAP wanted to set up a republic when they suggested that the prime minister be elected directly and not be appointed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong,” he said.

Muhyiddin said the DAP also never saw anything good about the Malays and Islam but was actively recruiting Malays with promises of high posts.

“The Malays should not fall into the trap because the intention of this racist party is to just use them for their own benefit.

“Malays who collaborate with the DAP are traitors,” he said.

Muhyiddin said PKR, which he labelled as an ultra-liberal party with no moral basis in its struggle, had no agenda for the Malays and Islam.

“Otherwise, how could a person who is facing a serious credibility crisis be appointed to lead the party non-democratically?

“As for PAS, they are now becoming a yes man to the DAP.

“Although the DAP leaders read several verses of the Quran incorrectly, they still defended them.

“When PAS talks about the Islamic state, the DAP leaders will be the first to criticise them and they just keep quiet,” he said.

On the coming general election, Muhyiddin said Umno members must give their full support and confidence to the leadership in the selection of candidates.
