Amendments to election rules to implement the use of indelible ink in the next general election will be ready by Feb 1, the parliamentary select committee (PSC) on electoral reform announced today.
The PSC was earlier given a demonstration on the process and application of the ink in Parliament House by Election Commission (EC) officials.

The application of the ink involves the dipping the tip of the left index finger past the fingernail.
Those who refuse to undergo the process will not be allowed to vote.
The use of the ink, which will last for at least 48 hours after the application, was among the PSC recommendations to prevent multiple voting.
According to a PSC source, a sample of the ink has been sent to the Chemistry Department for testing and the results will be submitted to the National Fatwa Council and the Health Ministry.
