Muhyiddin: Don't destroy unity that BN has built

Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin today issued a stern warning against attempts to undermine the country's unity, which the BN government has painstakingly built.

"The foundation for this, which we have built in the last 54, years must be strengthened.

"Do not try to destroy the foundations that we have created through cooperation among leaders from diverse racial and religious background through the concept of BN," Muhyiddin said at the national Christmas open house in Kajang this afternoon.

He said Malaysia was the only country where people celebrated various cultural and religious festivals together, despite their different backgrounds.

"This is what we must preserve and protect," Muhyiddin added.

Reverend George Harrison from the Kajang Holy Family Church praised Muhyiddin for livening up the spirit of Christmas.

"Christmas is a time for us to give to the haves not. What the government has done today shows that the government understands this," Harrison said.

This was in contrast a Christmas hi-tea last Saturday, at which National Evangelical Christian Federation chief Reverend Eu Hong Seng lamented the "bullying" of minorities by the majority.

Eu complained that the majority rights, which were constantly shifting, had been given too much airplay at the expense of minority rights.
