Caught on video: Bus driver rams into traffic policeman at Johor CIQ
JOHOR BAHRU - Video clips of a Singapore-registered tourist mowing down a traffic policeman on duty at the Customs Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex have surfaced online.
The fatal accident involving Corporal Ismayuddin Ismail, 50, took place last Thursday (March 22) at about 11.55pm.
A 49-year-old woman, the driver of the Singapore-registered tourist bus, had allegedly lost control of the vehicle which collided with a lorry before mowing down the policeman on duty.
The corporal, who had been with the force for close to 30 years, was standing on the road divider at that time. He died on the spot. He leaves behind a wife and five children.
According to a Bernama report, the bus driver, a 49-year-old Malaysian, tried to flee but was arrested 150m from the scene of the crash.
Johor police chief Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Sharif said the bus driver was believed to have lost control. The bus subsequently crashed into a lorry and a car.
Two videos of the accident, believed to be footage from different cameras located in the CIQ complex, were uploaded on YouTube. Both have now been removed.
According to comments on the video-sharing website, the policeman tried to stop the bus driver from escaping after hitting the cars but ended up getting knocked down.
