Sabah RCI: What the PM said is right, says Nazri

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Nazri Abdul Aziz today echoed the earlier statement of his boss that the establishment of a royal commission of inquiry (RCI) on the Sabah immigrants issue is still under consideration.

He was doorstepped by reporters after attending an event at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre today and quizzed about the cabinet’s decision on the issue.

Initially Nazri declined comment and asked the reporter to direct the question to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

“You have to ask the prime minister, ask the prime minister... I’m not in a position (to answer). The PM is the final person to answer,” he said.

When a reporter told him that Najib had earlier said the RCI is still under consideration, Nazri replied: “Then that is it lah, what the PM said is right lah.”
Earlier on, several Sabah BN leaders were quoted by media reports as saying that the much-awaited RCI had been approved by the cabinet and an official announcement will be made by Najib soon.

It was said that the cabinet is ironing out the terms of reference and the members of the commission, which is likely to investigate Project IC, a clandestine operation to issue citizenship to immigrants and turn them into voters to strengthen the support base of BN and Umno in Sabah.

However, Najib surprised everyone on the night of Feb 23 when he said the RCI is “still under consideration”.
