Sujang commits himself to PKR

There's no looking back for former PRS founding member Patrick Sibat Sujang who will now be helping Pakatan Rakyat consolidate its strength in Sarawak.

KUCHING: Patrick Sibat Sujang, a former advisor to Sarawak Land Development Minister James Masing, will continue his political struggle under the PKR banner.

Sujang, who is an authority on native customary rights (NCR), was Masing’s ‘key’ man and a founding member of Parti Rakyat Sarawak. He quit the party two days ago citing the party leaders’s inability to fight for the interests of the Dayak community especially on the issue of native customary right (NCR) land.

Throwing his lot behind PKR, Sujang met with PKR de facto president Anwar Ibrahim, deputy president Azmin Ali and other Pakatan Rakyat leaders in parliament and pledged his allegiance to “fight a bigger cause”.

In a statement issued to FMT, Sujang said: “I came to Kuala Lumpur to make courtesy call on Pakatan Rakyat leaders. I met Anwar Ibrahim, Saifuddin Nasution, Tian Chua, Nurul Izzah, Mahfuz Omar of PAS, Anthony Loke of DAP, Johari Abdul, Fuziah Salleh, and briefly met Lim Kit Siang.

“I stated that I have decided to continue my political struggle for Sarawakians in the country through Pakatan Rakyat.

“I believe in Pakatan polices and that the leaders have the wisdom and competency to implement all the good polices required to make Malaysia a better place for all communities.

“I have also told Anwar that I fully support Sarawak PKR leaders led by Baru Bian and will assist him to consolidate Pakatan strength in the state,” Sujang said.

According to Sujang, Azmin was glad to hear that more intellectuals in Sarawak were coming out to support Pakatan.

“Azmin also said that the party election committee would discuss with the state leadership committee in Sarawak on the selection of the best candidates for each of the parliamentary seats.

“This coming general election is a critical one for the country, ” Sujang said adding that he had been invited to join Anwar on his visit to Sri Aman and Saratok on April 8 and later to Baram and Linggi, constituencies where PRS-Barisan Nasional is facing revolts over allegations of land grabs.
