ACCORDING TO SCRIPT: MACC orders Azmin Ali's case to be re-opened
KUALA LUMPUR- The MACC operations evaluations panel has instructed the anti-corruption body to re-open the case on PKR deputy president Azmin Ali after receiving fresh information.
MACC investigations director Datuk Mustafar Ali said the then Anti Corruption Agency was unable to charge Azmin due to a lack of provision in the previous Anti-Corruption Act 1961.
Today, the New Straits Times reported that former ACA director-general Datuk Shafee Yahaya had recommended to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, then deputy prime minister and finance minister, that disciplinary action be taken against Azmin, his aide, following a 1995-97 probe into alleged corruption.
Shafee denied making a judgment call that there was no case against Azmin and ordering the case to be closed.
